Description
The Geoworks HDPE 1.0mm Impermeable Geomembrane is a premium high-density polyethylene liner designed for demanding civil engineering, environmental and infrastructure projects where a robust waterproof barrier is essential.
With its enhanced 1.0mm thickness, this geomembrane offers greater puncture resistance and long-term durability than lighter membranes, making it particularly suitable for large attenuation tanks, environmental containment schemes, lagoons and water management projects. The generous 5.1m width helps reduce the number of welded seams required, improving installation efficiency and reducing potential leak paths.
Fully weldable and resistant to a wide range of environmental conditions, the membrane is commonly specified for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), stormwater storage, hydrocarbon containment, root barriers and other engineered lining applications.
For optimum performance, we recommend installing the membrane in conjunction with 300gsm protection fleece, double-sided butyl jointing tape, single-sided jointing tape and suitable top hat units where pipe penetrations are present.
Wondering whether you need a 1.0mm geomembrane or if 0.6mm would be sufficient? Read our guide on 0.6mm vs 1.0mm HDPE Geomembrane for a detailed comparison of typical applications and key differences.

Recommended Accessories
For a complete impermeable lining system, we recommend pairing this membrane with the following products:
- 0.6mm HDPE Geomembranes – suitable for projects where a lighter-duty impermeable liner is appropriate.
- 300gsm Protection Fleece – recommended to protect the geomembrane from puncture during installation and backfilling.
- Double-Sided Butyl Jointing Tape – ideal for sealing membrane overlaps.
- Single-Sided Jointing Tape – provides additional protection and reinforcement over membrane joints.
- Top Hat Units – designed to create watertight seals around pipe penetrations.

Why choose a 5.1m wide geomembrane?
The wider roll reduces the number of joints required, helping speed up installation and minimise welding on large projects.
What is 1.0mm HDPE geomembrane used for?
It is commonly specified for attenuation tanks, SuDS, ponds, lagoons, containment systems and waterproofing where enhanced durability is required.
Can this membrane be welded?
Yes. The material is fully weldable and suitable for creating secure impermeable lining systems.
Do I need protection fleece?
For attenuation tank encapsulation and similar installations, a 300gsm non-woven protection fleece is recommended to protect the membrane from puncture during installation and backfilling.
Is a smaller roll available?
Yes. A 2.5m x 35m version is available where a narrower roll is more practical for handling or site logistics.
