Description

The 685 x 685 x 150mm F900 Ductile Iron Manhole Cover & Frame is part of Wrekin’s Cargo range, developed for Group 6 installations requiring an access cover capable of withstanding exceptionally high wheel loads. Manufactured from ductile iron, the cover provides a 685 x 685mm clear opening within a substantial 150mm deep square frame.

Certified F900 Group 6 to BS EN 124-2, this cover is intended for demanding applications where F900 loading is required by the location or project specification. Wrekin’s Cargo range is specifically engineered for heavy-load environments across the shipping, aviation and industrial sectors.

The cover incorporates a range of features designed to improve installation, handling and long-term performance. Enlarged frame corners distribute loads across the foundation, while an I-beam structure increases rigidity and helps reduce seating wear. The cover also incorporates indexed corners for correct alignment, mechanical lifting points and safety keyways for more secure handling.

Skid resistance has been independently tested by a UKAS-accredited laboratory to achieve a PSRV value of 70+ on the chequer surface. Wrekin’s GritBlocker system is pre-installed within the keyways to reduce debris build-up and maintain access for future lifting and maintenance.

The product meets CD 534 v0.2.0 and is also specified to BS 7903, DMRB and MCHW, alongside its BS EN 124-2 F900 classification and third-party Kitemark certification.

The cover has a 685 x 685mm clear opening, while the complete frame measures 890 x 890mm overall, with a 710 x 710mm base opening. Replacement customers should check both the clear opening and overall frame dimensions before ordering, as frame sizes can differ between manufacturers even where the required opening is nominally similar.

For projects requiring the same nominal access size at a lower load classification, our 675 x 675 E600 manhole covers provide alternative options where E600 rather than F900 is appropriate to the project specification.

If a smaller access size is suitable for your project, view our 610mm x 610mm F900 manhole cover and frame as a comparable heavy-duty option.

What load classification is this 685 x 685 manhole cover?

This manhole cover is classified F900 to BS EN 124-2 and Group 6 under BS EN 124. F900 covers are intended for applications where this exceptionally high load classification is required by the installation conditions or project specification.

For other sizes at this load classification, view our complete F900 manhole cover range.

What is the clear opening of this F900 manhole cover?

The cover provides a 685 x 685mm clear opening. This is the unobstructed chamber opening and should not be confused with the external dimensions of the complete frame.

What are the overall frame dimensions?

The complete frame measures 890 x 890mm overall, with a 150mm frame depth. The datasheet also specifies a 710 x 710mm base opening.

These dimensions are particularly important when planning the installation or replacing existing ironwork.

Can this F900 cover replace an existing 685 x 685 manhole cover?

Potentially, but the 685 x 685mm measurement refers to the clear opening, not the overall size of the frame. This product has an 890 x 890mm overall frame and a 710 x 710mm base opening.

When replacing existing ironwork, check both the clear opening and the available overall frame dimensions before ordering, as different manufacturers and product ranges can use different frame dimensions around a similar nominal opening.

Is this F900 manhole cover CD 534 compliant?

Yes. The manufacturer’s datasheet specifically confirms that the product meets the requirements of CD 534 v0.2.0. The specification also lists BS EN 124-2, BS 7903, DMRB and MCHW.

Is this F900 manhole cover Kitemark certified?

Yes. Wrekin identifies this product as third-party Kitemark certified. The datasheet also confirms its BS EN 124 Class F900 and Group 6 classification.

What features are provided for lifting and handling the cover?

The cover incorporates built-in lifting points for mechanical lifting together with safety keyways designed to help prevent accidental lifting-key disengagement during handling. Integrated keyway frame lifting points are also incorporated into the frame.

Wrekin lists long-handled large-cover lifting keys as a compatible accessory.

What optional configurations are available for this F900 manhole cover?

Manufacturer options include a flood and odour control plate, safety grille, screw locking and pressure relief holes. Safety grilles can be supplied in different configurations, including bar or mesh designs and drop-in or hinged arrangements.

These are optional configurations rather than standard features, so any special requirement should be confirmed when ordering.
